Meet The Biophysicist’s New Editor-in-Chief, Padmini Rangamani

Rangamani currently studies the biophysics of endocytosis, theoretical developments in membrane-protein interactions, and the biophysics of dendritic spines. She credits her own interdisciplinary training journey as well as serendipity for bringing her into the world of biophysics after seeking a place where she could apply mathematical principles to biology. She brings to the position the perspective of a researcher and educator in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California San Diego. Rangamani’s goals for her tenure as Editor‐in‐Chief include exploration of the complementary roles of formal education alongside educational journals in advancing research; the highlighting of research and analysis into best pedagogical practices for graduate programs; the development and design of research projects for high school interns and undergraduates; the creation of primers on educational and scientific methods; an opportunity to study the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives on the biophysical community; and the sharing of interviews and invited opinion pieces with the larger scientific community. She says, “Now, more than ever, is the time for an education journal such as The Biophysicist to steer the conversation toward what matters most, creating a forum for best practices in education at all levels, and separating the information from the noise.”
